Closer look at the recently launched Samsung Gear S3 Classic and S3 Frontiers
Samsung Gear S3 was unveiling at IFA 2016 in Berlin in September 2016 by the Korean heavyweights company and it was seen as an upgrade to the Gear S2 launched over a year ago surprising everyone with its rotating bezel and sporty looking design. And it seems the S2 classic has been eye catching which probably explains why Samsung splurged on creating two new watches in the form of the Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Samsung Gear S3 Frontier.Gear S3 is more like larger versions of the old classic, both smartwatches are clearly made with the premium materials. Yet, the Korean company says each watch is as durable as you can get making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
Samsung Gear S3: Design
Samsung Gear S3 comes in two variants much like its predecessor S2. These are the Classic Gear S3 with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and the Frontiers with either Bluetooth or 4G LTE. Classic Gear S3 comes with a stainless steel shell body with ridged, brushed and a metallic rotating bezel as opposed to that of a plastic loking bezel found on Gear S2. All this is accompanied with two round buttons on the left side. Both devices sports a larger display measuring 43mm and 1.3 inches compared to Gear S2 42mm and 1.2 inches.
As for the battery of the wearables, they both came with a 380mAh battery which should last for 3-4days. With this kind of battery capacity, the device should come handy for fitness tracking and some outdoor sports even on LTE. The Frontier weighs 62g and on the rear of the device is the heart rate monitor sensor.
The Gear S3 is a water-resistant up to 30 minutes at a level of about 5 feet below water surface. It is quite nice for outdoor enthusiasts but it is certainly not for diving.
Samsung Gear S3: Features,Spec and Operating System
In terms of Gear S3 durability, it's fitness does not differ much from that of Samsung Gearfit 2. Hence, according to Samsung most of Gearfit 2 features such as Challenges, leaderboards, auto-recognition of activity tracking are ported to Gear 3. The headline specs for the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier are its dual core 1.0GHz processor, 4GB internal memory and 768MB RAM. The display is a 1.3in AMOLED, and it looks stunning with a resolution of 360 x 360 and a pixel per inch density of 278. Just like the previous generation Gear S2, the Gear S3 Frontier runs Samsung’s own Tizen operating system as opposed to Android Wear. Tizen is brilliant and has been optimised well with the rotating bezel hardware.
